What is Sex Therapy

Sex Therapy

What is Sex Therapy?

Sex Therapy is a specialized form of therapy that focuses on talking about sexual concerns or issues. It is a Solution Focused Therapy designed to reach goals that are established by those seeking service. The sessions take place in a safe and comfortable environment, where individuals or couples are encouraged to openly express themselves. Sex Therapy involves talking, listening, sexual education, and problem solving.

What is a Sexologist?

A Sex Therapist is a licensed therapist who has specialized training in Sexology (the science of sexual behavior) and the diagnosis and treatment of sexual issues/concerns.

What happens in Sex Therapy?

  • Sex Therapy includes talking about the problem, arriving at an understanding of what is causing it, and developing specific strategies and techniques to resolve the problem.
  • The goal of therapy is to not only resolve the sexual problem but also to help clients gain a more positive attitude towards sex and achieve greater sexual satisfaction.
  • Creating a safe setting where you can discuss your sexual concerns without judgement, embarrassment or shame is essential in sex therapy.

Who attends Sex Therapy?

Sex Therapy is for people of all ages, gender and sexual orientation, who have sexual concerns, or want to improve their quality of life by dealing with

sexual issues. Sex Therapy is for individuals or couples.

What can I expect from my first sex therapy consultation.?

First, you will have an opportunity to tell me in detail about a specific problem you would like help with. Then I will ask you questions. My goal in the initial visit is to get a clear understanding  of your situation. We will look at where you are currently, where you want to be, and what is keeping you from getting there.

Freedom to explore!!

No topic is off limits in my office. A lot of my work is helping people understand their sexuality, normalize their experiences, and break the shame loop.
